Chevy Silverado EV Sales Nearly Double as the Electric Pickup Market Slows
The U.S. electric pickup truck market showed signs of contraction in Q3 2025, but the Chevrolet Silverado EV delivered a standout performance. Despite declining segment-wide sales, Chevrolet’s full-size electric truck recorded its strongest quarter to date, sharply outperforming the broader market.
Silverado EV Defies Segment Decline
Chevrolet delivered 3,940 Silverado EVs in the United States during the third quarter of 2025 — a 97% year-over-year increase, nearly doubling sales compared with the same period last year.
This surge came as overall battery-electric pickup truck sales fell 9%, highlighting the Silverado EV’s growing appeal as it enters its third year on the market.
Segment Rankings: Silverado EV Gains Ground
Among the five electric pickup trucks currently sold in the U.S., the Silverado EV ranked third by volume in Q3 2025.
Segment performance overview:
-
Ford F-150 Lightning — ~10,000 units (+40% YoY)
-
Tesla Cybertruck — ~7,100 units (–5% YoY)
-
Chevrolet Silverado EV — ~4,000 units (+97% YoY)
-
GMC Sierra EV — 3,374 units
-
Rivian R1T — ~1,800 units
With this result, the Silverado EV captured approximately 15% of the electric pickup segment, up eight percentage points from last year. It narrowly surpassed its corporate sibling, the Sierra EV, which held a 13% share, according to data cited by GM Authority.
GM Strengthens Its Position in Electric Trucks
When combined, Silverado EV and Sierra EV deliveries reached 7,314 units in Q3 2025. This gave General Motors a 28% cumulative share of the electric pickup segment.
That result placed GM:
-
Second overall in electric pickup sales
-
Ahead of Tesla
-
Behind the segment leader, Ford
The performance underscores GM’s increasing competitiveness in electric trucks, even as market growth slows.
GM’s Expanding EV Lineup Fuels Growth
Beyond pickups, GM now operates one of the industry’s broadest EV portfolios, spanning three of its four core brands:
-
Chevrolet: Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV
-
Next-generation Chevy Bolt EV scheduled for 2027
-
-
Cadillac: Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq, Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL
-
GMC: Sierra EV, Hummer EV Pickup, Hummer EV SUV
Across all brands, GM delivered 66,501 electric vehicles in Q3 2025, with total EV sales more than doubling year over year — a clear signal of accelerating momentum as new models scale up.
Big Picture
While the electric pickup market faces short-term pressure, the Silverado EV’s near-doubling of sales suggests that product maturity, availability, and brand trust are beginning to outweigh early-adoption volatility. For GM, the results reinforce its strategy of offering EVs across multiple segments rather than relying on a single flagship model.
