Volvo Trucks Launches 14-Ton Electric Truck Designed Specifically for Urban Transport
Volvo Trucks has officially expanded its electric commercial vehicle lineup with the launch of a 14-ton version of the Volvo FL Electric, a medium-duty battery-electric truck engineered specifically for urban logistics and city deliveries.
The updated Volvo FL Electric introduces a new battery configuration and optimized chassis layout, making it an ideal zero-emission solution for last-mile delivery, municipal services, and inner-city freight operations. The announcement was confirmed by Volvo Trucks’ official press service.
Volvo FL Electric: One of Volvo’s First Fully Electric Trucks
The Volvo FL Electric was among the first fully electric trucks introduced by the Swedish manufacturer. Since its launch, the model has gained strong adoption among transport and logistics companies across Europe thanks to its compact dimensions, low noise levels, and zero tailpipe emissions.
Its design allows easy navigation through narrow city streets, while the electric drivetrain enables quiet, emissions-free operation—an increasingly important factor in urban low-emission zones.

New 14-Ton Variant Targets Entry-Level Urban Applications
As Volvo Trucks continues to expand its electric portfolio, the new 14-ton gross vehicle weight (GVW) Volvo FL Electric represents an entry-level configuration designed to optimize payload capacity and operational efficiency.
According to Volvo Trucks, the philosophy behind the new variant is simple: customers should only purchase the battery capacity they actually need.
“This is the perfect working tool for city operations with zero exhaust emissions. We help our customers choose the right electric truck for their business. Buying only the required battery capacity maximizes payload, efficiency, and profitability.”

Flexible Configurations for Different Urban Use Cases
The new 14-ton Volvo FL Electric is available with multiple wheelbase lengths, axle configurations, and battery setups, enabling customers to tailor the truck precisely to their specific operational needs.
The shape and positioning of the battery packs ensure that they do not interfere with body installations on the chassis, making the vehicle compatible with a wide range of applications such as box bodies, refrigerated units, refuse collection, and service vehicles.
Additionally, the truck features improved maneuverability, with the overall vehicle width reduced to 2.4 meters, enhancing performance in dense urban environments.

Production Timeline and Expanded Battery Availability
Production of the new 14-ton Volvo FL Electric is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.
The newly introduced battery system will also be available across multiple Volvo electric truck models, including:
-
Volvo FL Electric (14, 16, and 18 tons)
-
Volvo FE Electric with GVW ratings up to 26 tons
This modular battery strategy allows Volvo to standardize components while offering flexibility across different truck classes.
