Mazda CX-6e: Second New Electric Mazda Confirmed for Australia in 2026

Mazda CX-6e

Mazda is accelerating its electric push in Australia. The brand has officially confirmed that the Mazda CX-6e, a new mid-size electric SUV, will arrive locally later in 2026, becoming Mazda’s second dedicated EV for the Australian market after the Mazda6e sedan.

Recently unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show, the CX-6e combines sharp Japanese design with Chinese EV technology, reflecting Mazda’s evolving global strategy.

Joint Mazda–Changan EV Platform

The CX-6e has been developed through Mazda’s joint venture with Changan Automotive, and is closely related to the Deepal S07 already on sale in Australia. While Australian specifications are still to be confirmed, European details give a clear indication of what buyers can expect.

In Europe, the CX-6e uses:

  • 78 kWh LFP battery

  • Up to 484 km WLTP range

  • Rear-mounted electric motor producing 190 kW and 290 Nm

This setup sends power to the rear wheels, giving the CX-6e a sportier balance than many front-drive rivals.

Charging and Performance

Thanks to its modern EV architecture, the Mazda CX-6e supports DC fast charging up to 195 kW, allowing a 10–80% recharge in as little as 24 minutes under ideal conditions.

Key Performance Figures (Europe-spec)

  • Power: 190 kW

  • Torque: 290 Nm

  • 0–97 km/h (0–60 mph): 7.9 seconds

  • Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive

Mazda has not yet confirmed whether higher-performance or longer-range variants will be offered in the future.

Size, Practicality, and Towing

Dimensionally, the CX-6e slots neatly into the mid-size SUV segment:

Specification Mazda CX-6e
Length 4,850 mm
Width 1,935 mm
Height 1,620 mm
Wheelbase 2,902 mm

That makes it larger, but narrower and lower than the Tesla Model Y, and slightly bigger than Mazda’s ICE-powered CX-60.

Cargo and utility highlights:

  • Boot space: 468–1,434 litres

  • Front trunk (frunk): 80 litres

  • Towing capacity: 1,500 kg (braked)

High-Tech Interior and Premium Audio

Inside, Mazda is clearly aiming upmarket. The CX-6e features one of the largest displays in the segment:

  • 26-inch central touchscreen

  • Head-up display

  • Wireless phone charging

  • 1,280 W premium sound system with 23 speakers, including headrest-mounted speakers

This positions the CX-6e as a more tech-focused and luxurious offering compared to previous Mazda SUVs.

Australian Pricing and Launch Timing

Mazda Australia has not yet announced local pricing or final specifications. However, the brand has indicated that the Mazda6e sedan is being targeted at $55,000 AUD or less, suggesting the CX-6e will likely sit above that figure when it arrives in 2026.

With nearly 500 km of range, fast charging, rear-wheel drive, and a high-tech interior, the Mazda CX-6e is shaping up to be one of the most important EV launches for Mazda in Australia.

Mazda has confirmed the CX-6e electric mid-size SUV for Australia in 2026. Featuring a 78 kWh battery, up to 484 km of range, 195 kW fast charging, rear-wheel drive, and a tech-heavy interior, the CX-6e positions Mazda as a serious new contender in the growing electric SUV market.
