AUDI E7X: A Radical New Electric SUV That Looks Nothing Like Any Audi Before It

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has just revealed the production version of the AUDI E7X, the second model from Audi’s new China-focused sub-brand AUDI (yes, all caps). And if you expected something resembling the familiar Q7 or e-tron family, you’re in for a surprise.

This is a completely new design direction, and it shows.

A Bold New Design for a New Brand

The production E7X remains close to the E SUV Concept shown at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Up front, the EV features a fully enclosed grille, ultra-slim lighting, and a revised lower intake likely hiding active aero shutters.

Unlike the concept, the production model drops the full perimeter lightbar, but retains the futuristic, aggressive face that sets AUDI apart from traditional Audi-branded vehicles.

Key exterior highlights include:

  • Traditional OR digital side mirrors

  • New camera/sensor clusters on the fenders

  • Roof-mounted Lidar

  • Flush door handles

  • Wheels up to 22 inches

This isn’t a facelift. It’s a brand reset.

Bigger Wheelbase Than a Q7 — And More Tech Coming

Dimensions place the E7X firmly in the large SUV segment:

  • Length: 198.8 in (5,049 mm)

  • Width: 78.6 in (1,997 mm)

  • Height: 67.3 in (1,710 mm)

  • Wheelbase: 120.5 in (3,060 mm)

For comparison:
It’s 0.8 inches shorter than a Q7, yet the wheelbase is 2.6 inches longer, promising far better interior space and EV-optimized packaging.

MIIT also confirms a four-seat “executive lounge” configuration for top trims.

While no cabin photos are available, the expectation is clear:
AUDI will likely equip the E7X with the E5 Sportback’s tech suite, which includes:

  • 27-inch full-width display

  • AI-powered AUDI Assistant avatar

  • Ambient lighting system

  • Hidden vents

  • fragrance system

  • Dual wireless chargers

  • 3D wood trim

If the E7X mirrors the E5’s interior experience, it may end up one of the most advanced cabins on any China-market Audi vehicle.

Two Powertrains: RWD and Quattro With 671 HP

MIIT confirms two variants:

1. RWD Model

  • 402 hp (300 kW / 408 PS)

  • Rear-mounted motor

2. Quattro Performance Model

  • 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS)

  • Dual-motor AWD

  • Top speed: 143 mph (230 km/h)

This makes the E7X significantly more powerful than the Q7 and even most global Audi EVs.

Battery & Range: Up to 435+ Miles (Claimed)

While MIIT did not specify battery details, the concept used:

  • 109 kWh pack

  • 800-volt architecture

  • 435+ miles (700+ km) CLTC range

  • Up to 199 miles (320 km) added in 10 minutes of fast charging

If these specs carry over, the E7X will rival or exceed the range of the BMW iX and Mercedes EQE SUV.

Launch Timing

AUDI has confirmed the production E7X will debut in 2025, with full details arriving in the coming months. As the second model under the new China-exclusive AUDI brand, the E7X signals that the German automaker is taking the Chinese EV market extremely seriously—and very differently than before.

This is not just another electric SUV.
It’s Audi reinventing itself for the world’s most demanding EV battleground.
